Course Objectives
The Medical Imaging course provides an overview of the radiographic modalities most commonly used in modern rehabilitative and diagnostic medicine: X-ray, CT scan and MRI.
You will learn the basics of how to read and analyze radiographic images of a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions that affect the majority of the aging population around the world:
- Low back pain
- Joint pain
- Arthritis
- Osteoporosis
- Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD)
- Types of bone fractures
- Joint Dislocations
- Spinal Stenosis
- and many others
Learning Material:
Dowloadable lecture presentations, video tutorials, handouts, readings
Evaluation:
Four online quizzes. Final exam. Passing grade 75%.
Continuing Education:
CEUs: 6
1 CEU= 10 study hours
Course completion: 60 hours
Course Curriculum
Course lectures are presented over four online modules, which include downloadable presentations, videos, quizzes and additional reading material.
Lecture 1
Lecture 2
Lecture 3
Lecture 4
You will gain an understanding of the working principles of each modality: magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computerized tomography (CT scan) and X-ray radiographs, as well as how an image is obtained. An integral part of this course is the examination of numerous radiographs of normal and abnormal human anatomy. You will learn how to identify the deviation between the two caused by a disease.
Upon completion of the study, you will:
- Become familiar with basic descriptive terminology used in the various imaging techniques.
- Recognize normal anatomy and deviations from it caused by a pathology.
- Understand the general principles of interventional radiology (diagnostic and therapeutic).
- Learn how to read and interpret the radiographic images.
- Develop an understanding of the relative risks related to the different imaging modalities.
